Al Roker’s family is mourning a deeply personal and heartbreaking loss. His eldest daughter, Courtney Roker Laga, recently announced the passing of her mother, Alice Bell, Al Roker’s first wife. Alice died at the age of 77, and while the cause of death has not been publicly disclosed, photos shared by Courtney show Alice with a breathing tube, gently cradling her granddaughter, Sky2.

Courtney posted a moving tribute on Instagram, writing:

“She was my mother, my heart, and the most loving grandmother to Sky. I was with her for her last breath, and I will carry her love with me always.”

Alice Bell and Al Roker were married in 1984 and adopted Courtney in 1987. Though they divorced in 1994, Alice remained a quiet but cherished presence in Courtney’s life. Al later married Deborah Roberts, with whom he shares two children, Leila and Nick.

This loss has touched many who followed Al Roker’s journey as a father and now a grandfather. Courtney’s tribute was met with an outpouring of love and condolences, including messages from public figures like Tamron Hall. Deborah Roberts also shared a heartfelt reflection on her evolving relationship with Courtney, calling her a “warm and loving” part of her life.
